Maggie Grace is an American actress who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her most well-known roles are Shannon Rutherford, a character in ABC's Lost series and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. Her parents had divorced and they moved together with their mother in Los Angeles. In 2001, despite her finances it was possible to land her first major performance in the video online show Rachel's Room as the lead character. In 2002 she was nominated for a Young Artist Award with her role as 15-year old murder victim Martha Moxley. In 2004 Grace was cast as Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost on which she acted as a principal character for the initial two seasons, and was awarded an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared by the entire cast. Leaving the series Grace would like to be as a film actress, and had been cast as the opposite of Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. In 2007, she was in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club as well as, alongside Liam Neeson's Kim Mills as Kim Mills for Taken. Taken 2 (2012), Taken 3 2014 and Taken 4 (2014) were her reprises of the role. Grace was back on the Lost series for the last two episodes playing Shannon. Grace appeared in Californication's 6th season, which aired from 2013 until the year 2014. She plays Faith, a groupie who is a muse for celebrities and attracts the attention of Hank Moody (David Duchovny). She is a member of the Gyllenhaal clan and the sister to Jake Gyllenhaal. Her acting career started as a young teenager with small role in films made from her father. Also, she worked alongside her brother in the 2001 famous movie Donnie Darko. The next film she appeared in was Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, both 2002 and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was praised by critics for her performances as the lead in the erotic romance comedy drama Secretary (2002) and the drama Sherrybaby (2006) both of which resulted in an Golden Globe Award nomination. Following several commercially-successful films, including World Trade Center in 2006 she gained greater recognition when she played Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). Following her acclaimed performance as a single mother of Crazy Heart (2009), she was awarded an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her subsequent roles include Nanny McPhee as well as the Big Bang and Hysteria. In addition, she appeared as a Secret Service Agent in White House Down the action-packed thriller released in 2013, she was a musician in Frank (2014) as well as The lead in The Kindergarten Teacher, a film that debuted in the year the year 2018. In 2021 Gyllenhaal made her writing and directing debut in the psychological thriller The Lost Daughter for which she won an award at the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated to win the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
